People often ask me what it's like having two boys and if they're different than girls. Well, it's too soon to tell if they're different, and if I had to give an answer about Fiona ... she's wilder than either of the boys. But here's a boy example of what they're like:
Jack found a salamander/lizard-ette in the creek. He named it "Honorary Jack" after himself. He played with it all day, made it a house in an old take-out food container and said he was going to keep it as a pet. OK.
So it was evening and after a warm day, it was starting to cool down and we decided Honorary Jack should sleep (in his container) in the kitchen.
You know how this is going to end.
When I went downstairs the next morning, there was no Honorary Jack in the container, which means he's somewhere in the kitchen.
I keep having visions of opening a drawer or a cabinet someday and having a giant basilisk poke his head out, look at me, and kill me.
THAT's what it's like to have boys.
